Ahead of Its Time

0926 - 81 DeLorean copy

The ’81 DeLorean DMC-12 is strongly considered as a car that was ahead of its time. This sport-tuned sports car with stainless steel body and gull-wing doors is one vehicle that still captures stares on the road. The Hot Wheels ’81 DeLorean DMC-12 is no different. Since the version shown above was released in the 2010 New Models Series, this casting has been a collector favorite.

As part of the 2010 New Models Series, the ’81 DeLorean DMC-12 was released in 3 versions; silver, gold & black. In 2011, this DeLorean received Hot Wheels Faster Than Ever Wheels as part of the series of the same name. In 2012, this casting received its first taste of being in a premium line while appearing with a zamac body in the Hot Wheels Boulevard line. Two brand new releases have just reached retail stores as well. A black version from the 2013 Hot Wheels Jukebox line and a dark silver version from the 2014 HW City Series.

A cool feature on this casting is that the rear louvers flip up revealing the DeLorean’s engine cover >>> SEEN HERE.

Two other DeLorean castings have been released by Hot Wheels as well. The all-too popular DeLorean Time Machine from the Back to the Future movie franchise, and another version of the ’81 DeLorean DMC-12, but this time with opening gull-wing doors.

Happy Labor Day!

0902 - Bread Box 10NM copy

Happy Labor Day today! I hope your weekend has been great. Isn’t it funny that we celebrate Labor Day here in the US by having the day off and not working? For those fortunately to have paid days off, we celebrate. For those who are at work, working in the service industry or our men and women overseas in the armed forces, we salute you for keeping the inner-workings of our country going. Whether you’re at work or at home, here’s a read for you, the hard-working people everywhere!

The Hot Wheels Bread Box casting was first released as part of the 2010 New Models Series (shown above). It was first released in white and was succeeded by red and blue color variations. It was designed by Hot Wheels Designer Jun Imai and is modeled after the Jeep FJ-3 Fleetvan. While the postal service got the nod in the first and most recent release, the Bread Box has also served as a courier truck and a nostalgic billboard for Carvel Ice Cream, Masters of the Universe & Harley Quinn of Batman/DC Comics fame. It should be noted that with the name “Bread Box“, you would think it would have had a version with some sort of bread deco, but it has not yet.

Collectors everywhere have clamored for this vehicle to be painted up as a Wonder Bread Delivery Truck but no such iteration has been in the works yet. Custom Bread Boxes with the Wonder Bread scheme have sold on the secondary market for as much as $15 when done nicely.

The Bread Box, a collector favorite already, will almost surely be released in some very nice schemes in the future. This collector, for one, is very excited to see what is yet to come!
